Scholarship Programs

The Miss Teenage Tampa  Scholarship Pageant (MTAT) was founded in 1967 as a means to promote high scholastic standards and provide a format for college bound young ladies to present their talents.  Activities surrounding the pageant provide experiences which contribute to the cultural heritage, enrichment and personal growth of contestants.

The pageant is the signature fundraiser for the Gamma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  In addition to financing the pageant, it also generates the funds for the community scholarships, Heritage Awards and other program activities.  The community scholarships are awarded by partnering with the Hillsborough Education Foundation which provides a list of eligible candidates.  Some of these scholarships are matched by Hillsborough Community College.  The Heritage Awards are presented to the children of active Gamma Theta Omega members who are graduating from high school.  Since the inception of the pageant, Gamma Theta Omega has awarded over 400 scholarships to young ladies in the Tampa Bay community.
